Selling any model railway and equipment .
Selling your model rail items can be emotional if they have been much loved, unfortunately they are probably worth less than you think. Value depends on condition (better with the box), whether they work and rarity. Books, Buildings, track and other accessories have very little second-hand value, magazines have none and are best recycled. To get some idea of value try looking up the items on eBay (same vintage and condition) and seeing what they fetch. “Buy it now” asking prices are not a good guide.
The easiest way to get rid of items is to give them away. If you want to sell them then you will probably do best selling individual lots on eBay, but this is a lot of effort. We suggest selling engines individually but rolling stock bundled into several related items. Easier alternatives include a private sale on Gumtree, Facebook marketplace or similar, putting them in a specialist Toys and Models Auction at Lacey Scott in Bury (they will take a commission) or sale to a dealer. Dealers generally offer about half what they feel the resale value will be, they advertise in the model rail press or can be found at local train shows.
